Congress Avenue Urban Design Initiative Phase 1 is underway between Cesar Chavez and 7th Street in downtown Austin. The City of Austin leads this project to enhance the urban landscape with mixed-use development.

Features include expanded sidewalks, pedestrian zones, and improved bikeway barriers, focusing on tree health and upgraded bike lanes. Completion is set for August 31, 2027, with a reduction of 37 parking spaces to prioritize pedestrian and cycling infrastructure.

Additional elements are turn lanes and programmable storefront zones to boost street-level activity, enhancing the experience for pedestrians and cyclists.
